"Awful / Homesick" SECOND PRINTING Now In Stock!

4 years ago, Upper Playground and Gingko Press published my very first art book, called "Awful / Homesick", which was a 96-page mishmash of 3 years worth of art, photos and other silly things. Within a year it sold out completely and has been out of print for 3 years.....UNTIL NOW! Due to popular demand and ridiculous prices on Ebay for the first printing, Zerofriends, Upper Playground & Gingko Press teamed up again to re-release it to you wonderful souls.
I'm sorry to inform you though, that it's NOT in 3-D, unlike everything else that gets rereleased.
But...it DOES have an all new cover and a new surprise twist ending!
(However, if you have the original first printing of "Awful/Homesick", please note that the interior pages are the same.)
The book goes on sale TODAY at 12 NOON (Pacific time) on the ZEROFRIENDS web store for only $20, and each book comes hand signed on the inside cover by my right hand of Awfulness.
But that's not all! To compensate for the lack of 3-D in the new printing, we are making up for it. The first 500 orders of "Awful / Homesick" will come shipped with a FREE signed, limited edition 6" x 9" giclee print of my "Gatling" painting!

CLICK HERE OR ON ANY OF THE PICTURES TO PURCHASE THE BOOK AND FREE PRINT STARTING TODAY, SEPT 18, AT NOON (PACIFIC)

Week 1 Roundup of my JUXTAPOZ Web Picks!

The first week has passed since Juxtapoz let me write silly Halloweeny things all over their website in conjunction with MY CURATED JUXTAPOZ HALLOWEEN ISSUE, and I think it was a pretty insanely solid start. In the next coming weeks, expect even more fun, and, as a movie poster once told me, "Prepare to be unprepared"!
Here's a roundup of the first weeks worth of articles, but i suggest you read THIS one first, as it talks about the special Halloween Questionnaire that I am passing around and it introduces the kind of fun that I want to have with this weird internet thing...
Click on the pics or the links below them to check out the articles:

That's it for this week. If you want to bookmark my whole feed on the Juxtapoz website, CLICK HERE!

In the midst of my Special Halloween Juxtapoz Magazine that just hit news stands and features one of our own monsters, the amazing Dave Correia,

"Sphere Of Hallucination"
By Dave Correia
17"x22", Edition of 100, $50
And, in true "fashion", we can never offer something for your walls without offering something new for your chest, or your chest might get jealous.
So lucky for your chest, we also just released my well-known "Escaped Conviction" (you know...the neck-slit one!) Pull-over Hoodies!

I know its not quite the holidays yet, but your chest and walls deserve a Halloween treat!

Sincerely,

My Jux Cover Timed-Release Print Now On Sale!

In celebration (which is what I will be doing in my head for the next year after the excitement of this) of the Halloween issue of JUXTAPOZ magazine that I curated, Zerofriends is releasing the cover as a special edition limited timed-release print that will ONLY be for sale for ONE MONTH, during the shelf-life of the issue, and then never again! And it starts NOW!
Simultaneously, Juxtapoz Magazine was nice enough to let me wrestle their website into my artsy camel-clutch submission too, so I'm going to be personally curating a lot of the web content on their site for the next month too, writing articles, reviews, and featuring a lot of art and content that will be different from the magazine. So make sure to check their website daily for updates from myself, with a little help from the whole Zerofriends crew. The first few articles are already up right now. I promise that I will NOT feature anything to do with Steve Harvey, unless Johnny Ryan draws a picture of his urethra prolapsing or something.

Jon Wayshak's "FOR THE FORGOTTEN" Opens Thursday!

So....brace all of your elves, as we are bracing ours, because one of the greatest, most humble, and somehow most completely demented artists in the world will be opening his new solo art show at our Zerofriends Oakland Gallery TOMORROW NIGHT, Thursday, Sept 6 from 6-9PM! And how do we celebrate??? By GIVING YOU FREE ART JUST FOR COMING TO CELEBRATE WITH US! But more on that in a minute...

We have collectively been such huge fans of Jonathan Way$hak for years since Dave Correia, Robert Bowen and I met him at APE (The alternative press expo) back in 2001. I was convinced he was the most skilled artist in the world back then, and he's only gotten better.
Tomorrow night (and through the month) he showcases a brand new collection of work that has to be seen in person to comprehend. But if you can't make it, you can TRY to absorb some of the magic by looking at the most emotional jpegs you've ever seen below as we preview just some of his paintings and drawings that will be on display.
Here's all of the info, and we hope to see you there!
"FOR THE FORGOTTEN"
A solo exhibition by Jonathan Way$hak
Opening Reception - Thurs. September 6th, 6pm-9pm
ZeroFriends Gallery
489A 25th Street, Oakland CA

Also, remember how i mentioned FREE ART??? Well, the FIRST 50 people to show up for the opening reception will receive this FREE 5" x7" limited print, signed and numbered by Jonathan Way$hak, courtesy of Zerofriends and Way$hak.
One print per person. Must be in attendance to receive print.

Now on to the goods!

And be sure to check out Matt Ritchie's interview with Jonathan Way$hak in the new Halloween JUXTAPOZ magazine that I curated. Here is his portrait for the magazine shot by Chloe Rice:

Alex Pardee x Halloween x Juxtapoz

In what may be my greatest art-related experience since I ate an entire family of live armadillos as a performance art piece back in 2002, I just finished curating the ENTIRE HALLOWEEN ISSUE OF JUXTAPOZ MAGAZINE!
The issue hits newsstands all over the world in a few days on September 11, and I can't wait to show it off. The issue is packed full of artists who have influenced me for years, as well as some newer artists that are creating their own worlds in every aspect of art from scribbling on paper to making video games. Evan & the rest of the Juxtapoz staff were amazingly supportive of letting me showcase who I wanted and how I wanted to do it, which means that the issue has a good-sized fistful of absurdity amidst its Halloweenishness. Pink vomit, human bats, M. Night Shyamalan, the internet, dog dicks, old men, and a comic book artist who tried to give The Joker a vagina are just SOME of the fun things included amongst the articles and art that I have gathered together for this issue. Also, keep your computers and phones tuned, as I, along with my fine surgically-attached brethren at Zerofriends, will be curating the online content of Juxtapoz as well. So please check out the Halloween issue of Juxtapoz when it comes out next week! You will make us all happy! And by all I mean the huge list of artists featured in it, which includes Sam Kieth, Dave Correia, Jon Wayshak, myself, Jhonen Vasquez, Nychos, Allison Sommers, L'amour Supreme, Edmund McMillen and so much more madness that I want to vomit on myself .

My "Attack Of The Show" Feature Video. GAZEEEEEE

The other day I was featured on G4’s “Attack Of The Show”, where I attempted to hypnotize viewers using a spherical mirror disguised as the top of my head. If you are ok with risking a possible seizure by gazing into my disguise, WATCH IT HERE!

WAYCOOLER CONTEST WINNERS, Part 1!

FIRST 20 #WAYCOOLER WINNERS ANNOUNCED! ONLY ONE MORE DAY FOR WEEK 3'S "CAR-TOONING" CONTEST!

I know it's late, but it's never too late to announce WINNERS!!!

Playing catch up from my trip to Portland for Dave Correia's solo art show and getting lost in the Sea-Woods with Chloe, I would like to finally announce the WINNERS of the first 2 (out of 6) WAYCOOLER LIMITED PRINT CONTESTS!
But first, like all of those dancing and singing reality competitions, I can't just announce the winners right off the bat and move on. No. I have to instead show you OTHER things first. You know, to prolong the tension and milk the sponsors that I don't have.
So first, if you don't know what's going on with these contest, but want to win an exclusive print, and have an iPhone, and love being creative, LET'S FILL YOU IN LIKE A SCANTRON!

Wait, first of all, YOU HAVE THE WAYCOOLER APP, RIGHT?! NOOO??!!! Fine, then do every photo that you have a favor and DOWNLOAD IT HERE NOW FOR FREE!
OK, good. So, you want to see what you can WIN first, courtesy of myself and ZEROFRIENDS?
Word!

Note, this print is NOT available for purchase and never will be sold online from Zerofriends.
Here's a little detail of the vomit on the print:

Ok, now, here's how you can WIN one of these 60 prints. Each week for the next 6 weeks, we will have 6 different contests, and once a week we will be giving out ONLY 10 of these prints to 10 winners of each contest.
Make sense? Over the course of six weeks (2 which have already passed), one contest a week, 10 winners per contest.
The contests each consist of submitting a photo or photos via email, created on with the WayCooler iPhone or iPad app.

Here's the basic rules:
1. Use the WayCooler App to manipulate a photo or create a photo from scratch that fits the guidelines of the current week's specific contest.
2. Have FUN.
3. Save the image to your photo library so you have it.
3.5. Make sure you are STILL HAVING FUN.
4. Upload it ANYWHERE (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram) and tag it #WayCooler
5. Email the image, along with your name, phone number (if possible), correct email address as well as WHAT SPECIFIC CONTEST YOU ARE ENTERING to waycoolerest@zerofriends.com
6. Each Monday following the deadline of the contest, 10 winners will be chosen by all of us at ZEROFRIENDS and 99CentBrains, and we will contact the winners directly and announce them shortly after.
7. Go have FUN! Make another one! There will be no limit to the number of different entries you can submit, but you can only win ONE print per contest.

Now, I present to you the winners of the first two weeks (in no specific order, names of artists below):
Contest #1 was "Low-Resurrection" where the object was to make an inanimate object come to life emotionally using the #waycooler assets.
Here are the winning entries:

Winners' names (clockwise from top left):
Rebecca Frost's "Dreamcatching Nightmares"
Craig Chittenden's "Why You Fightin' Me, Homes?"
Henry Lambert's "How Bout Them Apples?"
Sean ?'s "Long Walk"

Josh Walker's "Cigarettack!"
Mark Acharon's "ToiLET'S PARTY!"
Casey Diekmann's "Worship Me"
& Miranda Roche's "Burnt to a Crisp".
Congrats, cool people!

Now, onto Contest #2, "DraCooler", where the object was to create a famous horror movie icon from scratch using only WayCooler assets. Now, there were a TON of entries that were amazing, and a lot of people sent in multiple entries, all of which were incredible. And some of the entries were so well done artistically that it was almost too hard to believe. But one of the things we were looking for was not just artistic talent, but also creative use of assets and overall, just fun. So take a look at the winners. They are insane.

Winners' names (Clockwise from top left):
Rich Alvarez's "Reagan" from The Exorcist
Henry Lambert's "Chucky" From Child's Play

Zerofriends x Aesop Rock Fundraising Print Release!

HELP OUR FRIEND BY DRESSING YOUR WALL IN PRETTY CLOTHES!

Hello everyone everywhere. If you are a fan of amazing music, then you may know that our good friend and longtime collaborator Aesop Rock released his new solo album Skeleton on July 10, and kicked off his US tour July 13.

However, On July 15, hours before his 2nd show of the tour at the Fillmore in SF, someone broke into Aesop's tour van and stole all vital stage gear, forcing Aesop to cancel the show.  It took thousands of dollars to quickly replace all the audio/visual equipment they needed to be able to continue the tour to avoid cancellation.

In order to help recoup anything we can to compensate for the stolen and replaced equipment while they are on the road, we here at ZEROFRIENDS got together and I designed a limited edition 'Skelethon' giclee print to be released THIS FRIDAY AT NOON PACIFIC TIME.

The limited print is an edition of 125 and measures 16" x 20". It will be signed by BOTH AESOP AND MYSELF and sold exclusively via ZEROFRIENDS starting Friday Aug 3 at noon pacific time.

Cost is $50 each

All proceeds to Aesop to help him cover his costs. Thank you all for your support.

Inter(net)view me!

So, as I announced a couple of weeks ago, I'm curating and art directing the entire upcoming Halloween issue of JUXTAPOZ magazine and I have collected a pretty rad bunch of weirdos to join me for the ride.

Now, however, JUXTAPOZ asked me to find someone to interview ME for the issue. So, giving it some thought, one of the main aspects of any kind of success that I have found with my art has to be given credit to the fact that blindly embraced the Internet in the late 90's and started figuring out ways to try to share my art online. And surprisingly, 15 years later, the Internet is still playing a huge part of my career. So my response to JUXTAPOZ was "The Internet knows me pretty well. Can I have The Internet interview me?"

JUXTAPOZ said yes. So that means that for the next 48 hours I'm asking YOU, my invisible cyber friends who have equally made me smile, inspired me, laughed at me, supported me, and even in some cases infuriated me more than both Fantastic Four movies combined, to ask me any questions you want me to answer.
I can't promise that I will answer all of them, but I'm going to be working with Juxtapoz on answering as many as I can and compiling them into either something that makes a bit of sense, or a complete mess of words. Either way, I'm excited to read some good questions.

So here's a link to my Juxtapoz FORMSPRING page where I will be accepting questions from now until the morning of August 2 and answering them in the Halloween issue of Juxtapoz Magazine, on sale this October!

Robert Bowen's "Lethal Injection"

One of my best friends, Zerofriends collaborator and longtime influence, Robert Bowen (who I interviewed in the latest issue of Juxtapoz), is part of a great 4-Man Art Show this FRIDAY, Aug 3rd at 111 MINNA in San Francisco. Robert's been on an awesomely crazy Nature-meets-Military in a series of paintings I can only describe as "Animal f'ARMY". His paintings, along with paintings by Isaac Pierro, Nicolas Giraud & Phillip Lawson opens Friday, August 3rd at 5PM. Don't miss it or Robert and I might stab you with our zebra laser swords.

Dave Correia's "Friends Of The Dark" Opens In Portland

Contrary to what might hunt you down in your nightmares after seeing some of his work, Zerofriends' own Dave Correia isn't a scary dude. Fortunately for our eyeballs, however, his new collection of paintings is still frighteningly beautiful.

Next Thursday, Dave will be showcasing a brand new amazing collection of Oil & Acrylic paintings in his FIRST solo show EVER, up in Portland at Upper Playground / 5024PDX!

Here's a couple of sneak peeks at his new work, but seriously, the gallery is going to be PACKED with new art and the whole Zerofriends crew will be there for the celebration, so be sure to come check it out (and then you can go get Voodoo Donuts right afterward to ease back out of your nightmares...)
The flyer and the info is all below. WORD!
