Secret Animals, Grizzled Kampgrounds, Donkey Kong, and PDX Art.

Deformed twins, secret animals, hallucinating stuntmen, donut-fucking, serial killing teachers, treeple, and the evil computer from the Matthew Broderick epic adventure, War Games. How could these all possibly relate to each other? Simple, they are all characters in the imaginary (or maybe not-so-imaginary) universe that I am displaying tomorrow night at my new solo show, "Self Portraits Of Other People", that opens THURSDAY NIGHT, 7pm @ Upper Playground in Portland, OR.

Now for some adventures via photos over the last couple of days:





Sean painting a makeshift projector screen.

Took a quick break with Adam & Sean (bottom row) to go a little north and visit amazing illustrator Blaine Fontana (top left), he loves fingering me.



So then, we took a trip over to one of the illest design/motion graphics firms in Portland called Kamp Grizzly (Kamp Grizzly's site) and hung out with Kamp Grizzly's head honchos, Kevin & Dan, along with DangerEhren from VALLEY SKATE & SNOW in McMinnville. Stories were told of burglery, taxidermy, roofies, and computers. Those dudes seriously had one of the most inspirational studios I've seen. it was huge, full of critters and "fish", and they are working on some really cool projects, and hopefully we are going to collab on some video stuff soon. Check it:




I was REALLY excited to be at Kamp Grizzly, as you can easily tell by my piercing grin.

Sadly for me, this was NOT a bootleg copy of "Hell Comes to Frogtown", which i think is definitely Roddy Piper's Greatest Hit.

Once again taking full credit for something too dope for me to handle.




Oh yah, while i was there, we filmed me going for the world record at Donkey Kong like my hero, Steve Weibe. Did i do it??? Full video with results coming soon. Don't want to spoil it for you, but i think i did pretty damn awesome.




This is by far my favorite picture of me forever. I am SO goddamn happy when little wolverines want to date me and let me cuddle. Yes, thats definitely a cuddle-face on her.

yes, this adventure has been fucking amazing. Meeting a ton of local artists and eating a ton of mac'n cheese and voodoo donuts. So I hope to see you tomorrow night at the opening. Here is a sneak preview of some of the paintings that will be on display/for sale at the show. and there will be a bunch of neighboring galleries around there too so make it a night of art and then probably strip clubs or 80's video games. or both, as most people out here do.:) Enjoy.

PDX Update #1

It's pretty hard morphing into blog mode on the fly but i figure that its a pretty important time to do so, seeing as how I am not going to have a day of rest until around October 10th. I've been trying to be a little more organized lately, so I've been cramming all of my blogging into one day a week and peppering it out sporadically so it gives the impression that i'm either an expert blog-code-writer-from-my-phone guy or I have little cyber-imps that can download my memories and translate my thoughts into sometimes-witty html code. Either label I'm happy with. But by blogging everything at once, it also means that i have to be in the proper setting, with lit candles all around me, weeks worth of notes, spells, stupid references to movies like "Just One of The Guys" that i have jotted down, and blended up steak thats fed to me through a tube while I type voraciously for 6 hours.
So that's why tonight is weird. I am writing this blog from my hotel room in Portland, Oregon, where I just had to discipline myself to leave my group of friends, run back to the hotel, punch out some blog shit while Andrew Zimmer eats poison blowfish-dick on TV, and then meander my way back to the party and butt into a mid-conversation by saying something like "I know, Brenda is a bitch! I can't believe she dyed her hair, she looks like a fucking french hyena!" So that's what I am doing now, except, in usual absent-minded fashion, I came all the way back to the hotel but forgot to grab the camera cord so this update will have NO PICTURES AND THAT FRUSTRATES ME. But i will make it up to you tomorrow.

Came straight up to Portland right after my UPPER PLAYGROUND TOY RELEASE on Saturday, and Portland has been amazing in the few days that we have been here (i'm here with Adam and Sean from Zerofriends). The weather is super san diego-ish, and having adam and sean helping me set up the art show, we are finding some time to actually enjoy the city. And by enjoy i mainly mean point at (and try to videotape) the many odd shapes of humans up here (myself included) while we try to find good food and drank, which we have successfully done I guess since i just noticed that all of my pictures ive taken so far are either of food or the decorations at the restaurants we are going to. no, my soul has not been taken over by old people, I just seriously havent been out of the studio in SO long I forgot how cool food and outside is.

My solo art show, "SELF PORTRAITS OF OTHER PEOPLE THAT I DREW ALL BY MYSELF PRETTY MUCH", which will be open thursday night (June 4) @ Upper Playground PDX, is coming together nicely. We have been making a minimal mess, gluing a massive transvestite and giant rainbow-spewing dick to the wall, painting tree-shadows, concocting a dvd/projector mount out of a dishwashing tray, tape and some fishing wire, and inhaling fumes left and right.

Aside from that, we have managed to crowbar in some culture. Saw "Drag Me To Hell" and pretty much instantly decided that it was the most fun i've had at a movie theater since i saw Star Wars when I was ONE. And last night we went and hung out with the homie EATCHO, a really dope illustrator from Fresno who lives in PDX now. We joined (annoyed) him while he was working on his BACK on a mural (with another dope artist, JASON GRAHAM ) on the CEILING of an old schoolbus that was CONVERTED INTO A GRILLED-CHEESE RESTAURANT. I'm not joking. The place is fresh. I'll try to get some pics of the spot before I leave.
Then today, went up to my friend Blaine Fontana's studio in North Portland and checked out some of his various inspirational projects he's working on. I keep thinking I am working hard, and then I go visit artists like Blaine, who is simultaneously designing furniture, bikes, cars, painting full time, horiticulturing the shit out of bonsai trees, and riding his dogs like panthers. It was really rad because I have looked up to Blaine and his work for a long time but because he is so far from my beautiful grasp I have never seen his studio. It was some well-needed inspiration before I finish setting up my show.
Then we all (Me, Sean, Adam, and Jason from Upper Playground) ate dinner 30 stories above all of portland and played real life "where's waldo" with binoculars, which is fun in portland because one out of 6 people has a horrible, easy to spot outfit like waldo's.
Tomorrow is Kamp Grizzly, Powell's books, hanging more art, hopefully destroying LESS, fixing my pants (the one pair I brought the fucking zipper broke and I feel like the weirdest pervert as I look down at my crotch about 30 times a minute to see if it failed again and i get caught every time),, maybe try to infiltrate the Nike Campus in Beaverton, and eat more food.

Oh yah, and I will upload a bunch of photos tomorrow, including some preview pics of the show to try to entice your soul to come down and support on Thursday, June 4th @7pm at Upper Playground PDX.
Seriously, please come say hi. I worked really hard on getting some new cool paintings done amongst my madness.

And before I go, just thought I'd share that Andrew Zimmer just inhaled live-maggot-filled cheese. And also, you know that obscure "Just One Of The Guys" reference i hinted at earlier? well, regarding this attempt to write a blog on the fly, looks like I "...just finished."

Where have I been and where am I going??

Its been a while since i stuffed my fat toes into my limited edition cyberspace shoes and gone web-surfing in the intergalactic ocean that is the internet. Although its only been a few days, somehow I have now developed a fear of it. An overwhelming fear that I can't pick up where I left off. Too many Twitters to catch up on, can't possibly respond to the insane amount of spam on myspace and facebook, and failblog scares me only because i will sit there for hours and stare at utter fail only to make myself feel better about only semi-failing.

However, fear isnt the only thing that has kept me away from Sandra Bullock's best movie (don't question it, of COURSE i mean "The Net" and i dare you to challenge me). In usual fashion, I have been juggling more projects than ever and neglecting my health and sanity to make sure they will rule the school. So with that all being said, here is some fun little info on what is going on with me in the next week or so:

1. A huge chunk of my internet-neglecting hours have actually been spent drooling over perfect actress Kristen Bell, who I have become so obsessed with that i actually sold the rights to my dreams and someone made some shitty movie about Beyonce and Ali Larter and didn't even include my heavenly love, Kristen. If any of you know her, please tell her I would love to take her to Toast, which is my new favorite restaurant. I will wear clean pants maybe.

2. BEHOLDDDDD!!!!





Finally, I am returning to PORTLAND, OREGON next week to install and show a brand new collection of artwork at the Upper Playground / 5024PDX Gallery! Last time when I did my show there, I thought it would be a cool experiment to not sleep at all and paint 30 paintings in 30 days. Well, that experiment killed me and I vowed NEVER to do that again. So instead i said fuck that, i can do the whole show in 3 WEEKS! So yah, I have been in and out of a haze, day in and day out pumping out new paintings and drawings for this new show which will be opening next Thursday, June 4. Here is all the info about the show, as well as a little behind the scenes collage of me making stuffs for the show. Hope to see you there!!!! I love Portland. Maybe Kristen Bell will show up.

3. MY VERY FIRST ORIGINAL VINYL TOY IS BEING RELEASED THIS SATURDAY, MAY 30th @ UPPER PLAYGROUND IN SAN FRANCISCO!!! I am really excited (and a bit nervous) about the launch of this toy. I have wanted to fully design a vinyl toy for years and I can't thank Upper Playground enough for giving me this chance! I love the toy and I hope you do too. Here is the info about this Saturday's limited release and signing. Oh, yah, just to clarify, there are 2 versions of the toy. New CHADAM development article up!

A really cool, in depth article just got published online at CGW Magazine about the whole development process that has been going into creating the Chadam animated series that I am doing with HD Films an Warner Bros. And along with the article a few new screenshots got released, too! With your first look at the villain, VICEROY! I made a quick little collage below of some of the new shots as well as a couple of storyboards so you can see how closely we are trying to recreate them! enjoy.

NEW CHADAM VIDEO!! SECRET VOICES REVEALED!

I know I haven't recently mentioned the CHADAM ANIMATED SERIES that I have been working on for almost 2 years now, but that's only because all of the exciting stuff I am forced to keep secret. Anyway, a handful of secrets that I have been almost to the point of physically leaking out of my pores has been unleashed like the Krakken today, courtesy of my favorite sci-fi blog, io9. I will not bore you with the details, but i WILL tell you that after you check this out, you should know that these 2 days of production were one of, if not THE, coolest days of my professional life. Seriously. I simultaneously shook, drooled, and smiled like Miley the entire 48 hours. Go check it out, more updates soon. Chadam is going to rule the school. The team that is producing it and slaving over it is incredible!

Gag Me with a Toon 2: Gag Harder

Amongst the madness, I managed to put together a little experimental painting as an homage to a cartoon that both helped me appreciate the macabre and simultaneously deter me from drugs.







Countless hours of Scooby Doo drenched my eyes and brain growing up and the creators and writers were smart, because i have seen every episode of Scooby Doo countless times. Not on purpose, but because the show had such a standard formula, that every episode really was the same, so it took 20 of the 30 minutes to realize you had seen that episode already. And then they were even smarter when it came to the guest star episodes, because they made multiple episodes with the same guests, so that way you would turn it on, and be like, "aww, fuck this, ive SEEN Don Knots already....wait, is he running from a PUMPKIN?? Shit i havent seen this one!" So then next time a Don Knotts episode is on, even if you thought youve seen it, you watched it anyway. Genius...

Oh, also, when I was younger there was only one channel with cartoons so I guess that might be why I saw each episode a ton of times. I don't know, my past is hazy.

And how did it DETER me from drugs? Well, easy. Though i have always liked scary things, i didn't always like to BE scared. Hell, I ended up going to the mental hospital because I was scared. But anyway, I knew what hallucinogenic drugs were since i was really young, but i basically just figured they made you see both scary AND friendly shit that wasnt there, and thats that.
And after I noticed a few things about Shaggy, I caught on quick and realized what Scooby Doo really was. The only REAL thing in the entire Scooby universe was Shaggy. The dude was just an aging hipster that was a little kooky and schitzophrenic and took mad LSD. Everything else in the entire cartoon, from the talking dog, the "ideal" friends who would never be his friends in reality, the ghosts, the castles, etc, they were all just figments of Shaggy's consistently bad trips. When they would encounter other characters, ever notice how EVERY other character that the gang interacted with looked confused?? Thats cuz some Fight Club shit was going on and Shaggy was just talking in like 3 different voices and characters to these dudes.
And you would think that i would be like "holy shit, i see spacemen with skull heads and talking dogs when I do LSD? Rad!" But once again, the creators succeeded, because they made Shaggy CONSTANTLY SCARED LIKE A BITCH for 22 of the 30 minutes. No way did i want that fear. Hence, Hanna-Barbara, Casey Casem and Shaggy-whatever-the-fuck-his-last-name-is led me down the road of a drug fee life.

And here is a detail of part of the painting, which was done in all watercolor and ink on paper.






With all that being said, I guess i should at least tell you WHY i had to make this decision to paint my favorite villains from Scooby Doo in the first place. My homie Steven Daily has put together a sequel to last years successful "GAG ME WITH A TOON" art show at the ultra-ill MELTDOWN COMICS in Los Angeles. There's going to be a ton of amazing artists showing works based off of their favorite cartoons. And i mean it when i say "Amazing" artists. below is the flyer, the press release and all of the information for the show. I may or may not be in attendance depending on my schedule.

The original rocked but what shall we do it’s time to install what we call GAG TWO?
How is it HARDER? Because of the people whom we have corralled under our ink-stained steeple.
These artists are strong and accepted the task of eclipsing what we have recently passed!
How is it FASTER? We tempted the fates and shortened the time in-between GAG ME dates!
How is it RADDER? Is that even a word? I’ll leave that to Webster and remain undeterred to exhort you and your cronies to meet in the rear of the place we call Meltdown in the fifth month of the year where we shall show you dangers and demons, cereal mascots and spinach-filled sea men, double the lions that form into knights, brilliant blue dwarves and robotic lights.
We’ve multiplied madness and aggrandized our art, now it is up to you to come do your part!
Drink with two fists and view with two eyes this wonderful show that is littered with lies.
But this is line is truth, lest I burn in the fire; within these walls you’ll find much to admire.

My weekend debauchery report including painting the internet

Damn, I know its horrible to complain about the heat, so instead I will complain about what the heat DOES to humans, which is KILL THEM IF IT GETS TOO HOT.
Im sweat-typing, which just means that i can't hunch over my keyboard and type like normal because if i do, every 4th letter I will watch a bead of sweat kamikaze itself onto a random letter-key and spread out through the nooks and crannies of the keyboard just seraching for placed to RUIN ANYTHING ELECTRONIC. Thus, the lack of super-informative post about my weekend that I promised right now.
Instead, I will let Katie from JUXTAPOZ do the tell you all about me helping out with a big HURLEY x YOUTUBE mural with Me, Skinner, Jeben Berg and Jason Maloney, since she just reported about my it beautifully over on the Juxtapoz Blog, so go check out some more pics and info now....

2 New Prints Released this past weekend!

So, I just got home from a 2-day paint-a-thon with Skinner and the Internet, and my skin, surprise, got burnt, leaving me looking like a bright red version of the dude from Alien Nation, but i'll fill you in on more of my weekend later, as my brain is oatmeal and my heart is swimming laps in my chest.






However, before I crash out, i wanted to let you know that, over the weekend, Zerofriends released 2 BRAND NEW LIMITED EDITION PRINTS, and both of them test the limitations of our Futuristic Printers from the year 2029 as the prints contain colors that you can only create by force-feeding LSD to a rainbow and then, while it's peaking, choking it until it vomits sunshine.

The theme of the art show where this painting was displayed was "rebellion", so I decided to create a painting based around a really sad journal page that I found out by the creek near my studio. here is what was written in the journal:

"October 24, 1987
I never really wanted to write anything in here except stories about dragons and Cyclopses and stuff before. But today is different…
After I was born my mom produced an overabundance of white blood cells in her body because of a disease. So whenever she would try to eat, the blood cells would think that the food was an enemy, and they would attack the food by making her vomit it up. By the time I was 4, Mom weighed 79 pounds and all she could eat was rice, bananas, and plums. Dad never believed she was sick. He used to say it was ‘cause of guilt for her cheating on him before I was born. He said she felt bad ‘cause she knew in her heart that he wasn’t my real Dad. But Mom never cheated, and Dad was really my Dad. Either way, Dad’s always hated me. So when Mom starved to death when I was 9, Dad started being extra mean to me.
He made me mow the lawn every day, which wasn’t that bad, except he made me bite down on a piece of wood to keep my muscles tight while I did it so that I would “get my man-strength”. But all it did was cut my mouth with splinters. He hit me a lot. Mostly when I would talk about Mom, or when I would beg to sleep inside ‘cause it was too cold in the shed. And he would make me shoot things too. “G’head, you point that rifle at them bunnies and you pull that trigger to get some fuckin’ hair on that little girl chest ‘a yours!” So I did it. Bunnies, squirrels, even the occasional cat that hopped our fence just because it was OUR property, he said. And it wasn’t even for food. Dad was a vegetarian.
My childhood was disgusting.
But after 13 years, I finally rebelled.
Today was the day that I killed my father.

October 25, 1987
I slept through the night. And for the first time in my life, I remembered my dreams.
I dreamt that my life is finally…going to be beautiful."

The second print is titled "THE DELUSIONIST" and was originally created for my "Scratches & Abrasions" show at SURU in LA, and is a portrait of a guy named Greg that I shared a room with when I was in the mental hospital years ago. Dude was way crazier than I was.
